Wildcats stunned, 111-103
The University of Kentucky basketball team rallied from a 23-point deficit to claim a second half lead, but the Wildcats still were stunned by Virginia Military Institute 111-103

The northern kentucky game that UL play they had 1 guy make 9 threes and still won. Bottom line VMI is weak and so is Kentucky. Dont say they are a good team and great shooters because they beat UK. With no D any team can shoot good. Should have never been a battle. I knew playing the worst of the worst teams in exibition showed nothing. Least Louisville played the best of the worst scrubs in there exibtion games.

I mean look: they were down the entire game, at one point in the second half, down by 21! They clawed back and actually took over the lead for several minutes. You have to give credit to this VMI squad though, boy can they shoot the ball! They are in no means a bad team at all. I think I saw a stat that last year they actually lead the NCAA in 3 point baskets. Quite an accomplishment for a "high school team," huh Randy. C'mon now. Give credit where credit it due. VMI is not bad. They hardly ever missed from 3 point land. I doubt UK will see a team shoot the 3 ball that well the rest of the season, even NC next week wont be launching three's like that. They have Hansbrough down low who will be getting a lot of touches. Patterson and Stevenson will acutally have someone to match up against. I think this VMI game was an excellent prep game for Tuesday night when the Tar Heels come to Lexington.

This is a long season, everyone. There is no reason to lose faith, or start up the ignorant UL banter. One loss doesn't make or break a season. We just have to tighten up the defense and prevent that three ball. No question our rebounding corp is solid. Our offense certinly isn't stagnent, and Jodie Meeks is clearly out to make a statement!

I dont care if they were even half way decent they would in the dance. How come when UL loses to a weak team its not OK. But when UK loses its all their a good team when they are obviously not

I agree with you wildcat but, Kentucky knew they how good they were offensively and should have been ready defensively. Whether is was because Billy did not prepare them for this or they thought it was going to be an easy win. Either way it is a lesson learned and I am sure they will still have a good season.

The radio said that VMI was a team that would just throw the ball up and hope it goes in. Their goal is to take 100 shots a game. If you play a team that goes by that philosophy if they hit their shots they are going to be hard to beat. It wasn't like you could just guard one it was many. Teams like that always play well against us. I think we will be okay once the freshman get more experience.

Are you UK fans actually saying that VMI is a good team? OMG!! When you have to think a D2 school is good, you know your program has hit rock bottom.

And I will stand by my Cards too FATSMAN! I go to the games and still support my team.
Since UK is not playing football this Saturday, I assume you are going to the UofL game with those season tickets? If so, I'll meet you there. What section and seat numbers again?

It is true, it's not how you start it's how you finish. So if UK finishes 6-6 will you UK fans say they suck like you did Louisville last year or will you make up some BS excuse like you always do?

How 'bout them CARDS!!

UofL played a very good game against a team a few years back that hit just about every 3 pointer it threw up, (W.V.). Remember the shot from the N.M. Logo? Remember, Beilein shot from the side, that banked off the back board? Now thats a circus shot!!
3-Pt. 1st Half: 10-14 2nd Half: 8-10. Now you would think a team would lose to that, wouldn't you?

W.V. was playing that way all year also, and they won a few games that year. Not like you would think, 24-11.

And how about quite a few years back with Bo Kimble & Hank Gathers? Now that was a team that ran points up, but they couldn't win the bigger games. Loyola Marymount University, averged over 120 a game. Now thats jacking up shots!

The name of the thing UK didnt do, "DEFENCE", if UK played better DEFENCE this team should not have beaten them at RUPP.

I don't understand what you dont get, UK lost to VMI, was they even in the NCAA 64? Was they even in the NIT? Sounds good they shot the ball so well, but UK is not, North Carolina-Asheville, Liberty, Winthrop or Gardner-Webb.
Virginia Military, finished 14-14 (6-8) last year, the year before they was 12-18 (5-9).
Yeah, they shoot the lights out, but they dont win very many games.

How do you know? You seem to always play the guru on here about the Big East, but you dont know if they would beat any of the top teams in the Big East. Remember, "if your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle"?

Bullshit. SEC has 3 legit teams. outside of those three the rest is ho-hum. It is no harder or easier than any other conference. Go ask Texas Tech how confident they feel with the conference they are in.

give it a rest. Heart and determination??? Uk came back because they were suppose to. They were a bit more fresh and had the advantage talent wise, so it was only natural that if they kept playing they would find themselves in the thick of things, not to mention the style VMI plays also allows teams to come back.
Yes VMI can shoot and boy did they show and prove it. Trading 2's for 3's is always a bad idea, but UK was almost helpless to defend it.
UK could have won this game if the played smarter and were coach better down the stretch, but the lack of a point guard really really hurt.
But on another note, the first half was a lot closer than it should have been, the refs were so one sided in that half it was unbelievable, the broadcaster were to. There were some calls that should have been made on both sides but were only made for UK, watch a reply if you can and watch the refs pull for UK early on in that game
