Early prediction for January 2nd

First half
Offensively the cats are on par if not better that the cards, but the the defensive standpoint, the cards completely outshine the cats. 1 of 2 things will happen in the first half. Either coach cal will leave John wall and bledsoe in the entire 20 minutes resulting the the relentless press of the cards wearing both of them down to non factors in the second half. Or, he will sub them out and UKs second string guards will turn the ball over too much and put the cats in a slump. So far this season wall and bledsoe have not been great when it comes to taking care of the ball. So even with them in the game there could be a lot of UK turnovers. Down low Patterson will most likely win the battle against samuels, but samuels has looked a lot better this year than last so I don't really expect Patterson to get him in bad foul trouble until the second half. Cousins has had foul trouble some this season and I expect him to spend a lot of the time on the bench because of it come January 2nd. Louisville will be looking to shoot the 3 and UK hasn't defended it very well this season. If the cards are left open they will make a lot of 3s. First half score UL-39 UK-35.
Second half.
This is where UL being able to go 12 deep will hurt the cats. Coach cal said himself that the cats will only go around 9 deep. Louisville loves to wear teams down and this will be their gameplam against UK. Unless the cats can get some serious production outside of their main 4, then the second half will clearly go in the cards favor. The young freshman guards in wall and bledsoe will not have faced a full court press like the one they will meet against UL. Being inexperianced against it they will most likely make mistakes. And if calipari leaves them in for too long, they will start making a lot more mistakes because of being tired. Unless coach cal can get some more guard play beside these two, then look for Patterson to be the only key threat late in the 2nd half. 2nd half score

UKs bench is not deep enough to keep fresh legs on the court, the inexperianced freshman guards commit to many turnovers against the press, and the inability to defend the 3 leaves to many cardinals open.

If UL is knocking down the three then they have a chance to stay in it. I think UK will be extremely focused, something they have not been at times early on. I agree UK will make some mistakes that allow UL to stay close, but UK is to big and strong inside. The tempo of the game will be fast which favors guard play, and while UL has more experience UK has more talent. Obviously anything can happen, but I see it being close 80% of the game and then UK takes over.

Louisville is going 12 deep against Morgan Freeman St and Appy St. If you think Pitino is going more than 8 or 9 deep when they play Ky or any other team from the Big East, then you're a fool. Like Shamrock said, I really hope Pitino thinks his 10th, 11th, and 12th players are good enough to play on January 2nd in Rupp Arena. If so, the game will be an absolute blowout!
