REDNBLUEFANS

Hey if you haven't already go to ESPN and read Pat's article about the hottest rivalry in college basketball. He put UK vs UL as the hottest rivalry, I think Duke and UNC were number 4. I'm telling you this totally pissed off the Duke and UNC following they are talking more trash on their comments about UK and UL then I have seen in a while. Hell even some UK UL fans are joining forces to defend the state. I actually saw a UK fan write about how UL and UK both have historic programs!!!

So now the question is cards and cats fans, is the UK UL rivalry the hottest in the nation now that Cal is in Lexington?? Does it surpass Duke vs UNC?? Until Duke decides to become relevant and make it past even the sweet sixteen, I have to say that UL UK will be the talk of college basketball especially if both teams get off to a good start.

I'd say that UNC/DUKE is more attuned the the St.X/TRinity football rivalry. Both schools are relatively major powers and only several miles apart, so it adds to the hype. Plus, as Catsman mentioned, they're in in the same conference, which gives the win a little more significance. Potentially, the match-up has the abiltiy to occur no less than two, but possibly three times a year. The Pitino/Calipari clash will definitley boost/re-establish the prominence of the local contest for at least the next three years.

Ultimately the national obsession with the Carolina rumble lies in the fact that a meaty number of UNC and DUKE alumni are employed by the four letter network. Maybe if our combined local institutions can bang out a few more personalities to accompany Mashburn, Corso, and Jackson, the Bluegrass bash will ascend to the lone flag of notoriety atop the mountain's peak.

I really dont care if other states think we have the best rivalry or not. I know what the game means to uk and UL fans, and thats all that really matters.

To me the UL, UK rivalry has always been better than UNC and Duke just for the simple fact that they play each other twice on each others court. If one teams wins one game, what they have to wait two weeks to get payback and the even if they lose that one they still get another chance in the ACC tourny. If UK beats UL or vice verse the losing team has to stew all year unless they meet in the tourny and that has only happened once right. The only thing to me holding our rivalry back is ESPN plain and simple, as long as Jim Nance, Dicky V and the rest of the ACC clones are on their perches the UL, UK game will always take a back seat to UNC and Duke.

I can't speak for the other rivalries because they don't that mean much to me. I can only speak for the one that I look forward to every year, UL/UK. And regardless of how, it is ranked amongst the media, it is #1 on my list!
