REDNBLUEFANS

I see were another Brohm has left the UL program, kragthorp is a cancer and our Football program is being read it's last rights.Everything that the UL program was known for the high scoring, the 35 yard touchdown passes, the break away runs from our tailbacks have all been erased since he has taken over. Not only has he never reached out to the local high schools to bring in the home grown kids, but he has all but destroyed and dried up all of our "pipe line" states. Was'nt he supposed to bring in some kids from the Tulsa south Texas area? The UL program has been built on the name of the Brohm family as well as the Trinitys, the Males, the Southerns, and the Fairdales. He is slowly erasing everything that we have tried to build, I know that we always will be considered a basketball school but it was nice for awhile to win some football games. And what the hell is Jurich thinking, you can look at it from two ways either he has just been luck in his hires so far and he is really just F*cking clueless.Or he is trying to make the coaching job more attractive for the next guy.

I will have to disagree with you on one thing I never said that UL was a national power I did say that we will always be known more for basketball other than football, like I said it was nice to have some success in football though.I do think that a good coach who will reach out to the local kids and one who actually can come up with a game plan can make a difference.Being a inner-city school with a small stadium has nothing to do with it.How do you explain Boise ST. they play in cold weather on blue turf and in a weak conference with little to no t.v. exposure.Right now just compare UL and UK what can Kragthorp offer a kid over Uk nothing but playing time, he can't offer a BCS or a bowl game because he can't even come up with 6 wins.Where as Brooks has the lure of the SEC, the fact that UK owns the series right now and you will get to play against UF,LSU,and alabama.People have debated me about this but to me a team is the reflection of the coach, look at USC and the earlier teams coached by Spurier they had swagger because their coach had swagger.UL was good because they knew that Petrino would rip their ass if they screwed up, a UL reciever fumbles on the goal line or the seconary gives up a big play and Kragthorp does not even bat an eyelash.

Hope TommyTurtleneck, and Kraigcooper hang around for a while. Sending the last available Brohm (Greg) to selling parking passes to a soon to be vacant stadium is a joy to see. New seats will only cause danger to visiting teams, as the exodus when behind 20+ points may injure innocent football fans. SEC-SEC Rules

Good post Cats you are right I guess I will have to just watch the game through my fingers like a un-rated horror movie.

There are not enough "local kids" to pull ul out of their current dilemma. Players the caliber of Bush and Brohm do not come around these parts very often, ESPECIALLY at the same time. That basically leaves the outlaws and academic problems that most other schools won't/can't take. Petrino was my neighbor. He could see the handwriting on the wall. GREAT COACH. Great coaches are destined to receive great coaching opportunities. Petrino, no doubt, will get Arkansas to a higher level. THEN HE WILL LEAVE FOR A SCHOOL WITH BETTER FOOTBALL TRADITIONS. It's NOT a case of "IF", only "WHEN." Petrino is gone from ul. So are most of the "problems" that he somehow controlled, or hid. Coach K is the man now. Even if he leaves, the "cupboards are pretty bare." Hard to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. It likely will be a few years before ul will return to even mediocrity. As I stated above, ul "fans" need to continue to support their team, NOT abandon them in their time of need. As a loyal UK fan, I have missed 3 games in 17 seasons, ALL due to weddings of family or close friends. Obviously, I've witnessed some "fugly" football over that time. But I have NEVER abandoned them. And most UK fans feel the same way that I do... capacity or near capacity crowds even in their worst years. Stay the course. Don't disappear like the chuck's/killa's of the fair weather ul "fan" base. They need your support now more than ever. Good luck cards. GO CATS!!!

Clueless AD's don't get recognized as the best in the nation by their peers.

You're so upset about Brohm leaving, how many more wins would his staying get us this year? What does a Director of Football Operations even do?

I'm also disappointed with the results from the last two seasons but a cancer? Rush Limbaugh is less negative than you. Is this team worse than the Orange Bowl team? Of course. But like the economy, these things run in cycles. I can see some possible bright spots. Cantwell is gone and are his 90 mph dump passes. We have a little more depth this year so hopefully we won't see a total collapse the second half of the season. On the recruiting side, I can't remember a staff that gathered so many commitments this early. Not only that, all the kids signed for this year, actually arrived. Petrino always had 2 or 3 not show up. On that subject, look at UK's incoming class, they're dropping like flies. On the local front it looks like we're hitting the local schools hard so that should make you happy.

It may still turn out that Kragthorpe isn't the right man for the job, time will tell. But if he's not, at least he's getting the cupboard stocked for the next guy.

I am a UL fan so I say when two kids from Central high school, a inner-city high school commit to UK over UL we have a problem.

I never said that UofL doesn't have problems, and yes I admit to drinking the red kool-aid, that's what fans do, and I didn't say that Kragthorpe is the man for the job.

If the two Central kids you're talking about are Robinson and Patterson, and they do wind up going to UK, then yes, that hurts, but they haven't committed yet so I'm not giving up on them coming here. With the new recruiting plan where coaches are assigned to various schools, I think the number of locals coming to UofL will increase, but I'm not sure yet if that's good or bad. Kentucky doesn't produce a lot of quality D-1 players so if the choice is a 1 star from Trinity or a higher ranked player from Texas who earned that ranking playing against tougher competition, I'll take the out of state player every time.

And yes, I agree the program looked like it was in the crapper last season, and might well again this season. It might stay in it as long as Kragthorpe is here. I don't know. But I think the overall picture is a little brighter than it was last year, and the early commits so far of the 2010 class is an encouraging sign, at least to me.

I don't see what could be "encouraging" about these recruits: http://rivals100.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?Year=2010&School=38
Or UL's 68th ranking by Rivals.com as a result of recruiting them!!!...but to each his own.

REMEMBER!, 68TH RANKED RECRUITING CLASSES MAY BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN THE C-USA, BUT THEY PUT YOU AT 1-6 AND DEAD LAST IN A MAJOR D1 CONFERENCE...EVEN ONE AS WEAK AS THE TINY LEAST!!!

Cincinnati's 2009 class was ranked 60th and they won the Big East.

This list is the 2010 class which is not complete yet. It does include Quan Weaver who just might be the best back in the state. My point about recruiting was two fold, first, we've gotten more early commits than we have in a long time. That's a good sign.

Second, the recruits in Kragthorpe's first two classes all made it to campus, which is something that didn't always happen before. More bodies = more depth = less late season collapses. (Yes, that assume they're not all a bunch of stiffs, but how do you know for sure until they get on the field?)

Kragthorpe's first redshirt class comes on line this season. The big names are Benavides, Ashley, and Stoudt, but I think the key is how the lesser knowns perform. If they play well and contribute, it could be indicator of this staff's ability to evaluate and develop talent.

Before you call the men in white coats to come get me, I'm not predicting a winning season for UofL, maybe 4-8. I'm just saying after watching the program take a nosedive the first two seasons, there are SOME recent trends that I find encouraging.

Kragthorpe still hasn't proven to me that he is the right person for this job, but if this turns out to be his last season, the recruiting classes that are on campus now and the 2010 commitments so far, give his successor something to build on.
