What happened to the talk about the big east being the 3rd ranked conf. in the RPI?

Tournament record 5 teams in the sweet 16. Oh yeah! SEC 00000000000000000

Clearly we're all smart enough to know by this point in the tournament what conference you're from can be thrown out the window... I stand by my opinion that this year the Big East was the best college basketball conference in the nation and the fact that UNC and Mich St. are playing for the title in my opinion doesn't change that at all... Regardless of what conference you're in once you reach the elite 8 and especially the final 4 the teams playing in it are the best of the best. Just b/c a Big East team is not going to win the national championship does not mean that the Big East "THIS YEAR" was not the overall best conference. UNC has been in the top of the rankings all year and can not be denied they're a very good team. Same can be said for Mich St... I know I never "guaranteed" a BE team winning it all it was my opinion UL had a very good chance to do it but they obviously did not happen... I know for some UK fans out there you have to pull from anything you can find to try and drag down UL fans but lets be honest while most of you will only talk about the Big East not winning the championship really what you should be comparing is the SEC vs the Big East... Funny how in basketball season "some" UK fans neglect to look at the FACT that the Big East is head and shoulders above the SEC. But when it comes to football that kind of comparison is all that seems to be talked about... for the record I do understand there are many obnoxious UL fans that do the same things I'm describing towards UK but if we were all just a little honest with ourselves then many things would need no argument...

James I do agree with you that the Big East was better than the SEC this year. I do have a problem with your argument though. The SEC is better than the Big East in football EVERY year. The SEC has had a higher RPI than the Big East in basketball 7 out of the last 10 years. The SEC would dominate the Big East in football year in and year out. The Big East wouldn't dominate the SEC in basketball year in and year out. This year they would have. I'm not denying that at all, but you guys act like it's always been this way, and always will be. I think next year you guys will come back down to Earth. UCONN is going to lose everyone, including their coach. UL is losing two NBA players and the best on the ball defender I've ever seen. Pitt will probably be losing two NBA players as well, with Blair and Young heading to the draft. We all know how weak the bottom half of your conference is every year, and with the top tier programs losing so much, I don't think you'll feel this way next year.

Then why bother commenting?

James, I have to repsect you for your honest evaluations and arguments - you're about the only level headed UL fan on these boards, but the novels you write with every post just turn me away. It's a shame; I'd love to read it, but I just don't want to be bothered...

For the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament 5 teams from the same conference advanced to the sweet 16. I would say that conference was the best.

Calhoun said he is contemplating leaving. He is 66 years old, he's going to lose most of his starting lineup to the NBA, and there's a good chance Uconn is going on probation. That all adds up to him calling it quits.
