THIS IS WHY LOUISVILLE IS, AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE, THE NEW SYRACUSE!!!
Petrino's best recruiting class was his last, in 2006 he pulled in the 26th class (scout), and 34th (rivals).
here are the rest of his classes:
year / rivals / scout / conference - rank
2003 / 35 / 48 / c-usa - R (1st), S (3rd)
2004 / 64 / 54 / c-usa - R (5th), S (2nd)
2005 / 45 / 43 / Big East - R (3rd), S (1st)
2006 / 34 / 26 / Big east - R (2nd), S (2nd)
which was an average of 44th (rivals) and 42nd (scout), for an overall 43 average nationally, and an average conference ranking of 2nd.
and petrino competed against the c-usa for 2 of those years, and a fledgling big east the other 2.
none the less, notice if you will that petrino averaged the 2nd best recruiting classes in his conference.

now let's look at your new coach's classes:
year / rivals / scout / conference - rank
2007 / 41 / 47 / Big east - R (4th), S (6th)
2008 / 55 / 54 / Big east - R (6th), S (7th)
2009 / 76 / 64 / Big east - R (7th), S (6th)
which is an average of 57th (rivals) and 55th (scout), for an overall 56 average nationally, and an average conference ranking of 6th.

now, the big east over the period of time that ul has been a part of it, have maintained a 6th place conference ranking (verifying the fact that it is THE weakest major conference). which is to say, it certainly hasn't gotten any stronger. but ul has gotten a lot weaker.
so!...that said, you guys can engage in all the usual mental masturbation you want to, hell even until your minds explode in ecstasy if you like. but come September you'll be mentally limp and impotent again!
