Coach Cal:Not only great coach, but a great man

As i was watching the last John Calipari press conference this past Wednesday, listening to him talk
about all sorts of topics, from the starting of a new web page that will allow Kentucky fans to interact directly with him. It got me thinking about how great it is to have a coach that actually is excited about Kentucky basketball the same way that the fan base is. After the past two years dealing with a coach that basically was all about a paycheck and the hell with everything else. Coach Cal has reached out to alot of the former players hiring two of them to administration roles
getting Scott Padgett and Tony Delk to help in the basketball program was a classy move, who knows more about the passion and the tradition of Kentucky basketball more than former players?
Another topic he discussed was about the trip he is about to take to China and the fact that he was
going to make Kentucky the main college brand in China. In only a short 43 days we have seen the Kentucky program go from about forgotten to a complete fenzy. All the things that you want in a coach from an ambassador of the program, to very personable and approachable, he started a twitter account that allows fans to follow his everyday job as coach at Kentucky. I certainly appreciate Coach Cal and all the classy things he has done so far and I am looking forward to having a coach that is about Kentucky basketball past, present, and future.

You have got to be kidding, a great man,a great coach,OMG I really don't believe that you (wildcatladyfan) what you are saying is true. The NCAA is about to wipe his great record at Memphis. He might be nice since he does charity work but letting mob bosses hang out at you practices is not a great thing. Now they are digging up other players(SATs)test scores on calvery's past final four team. Like my daughter says "uh oh"

I agree rerun! I have only been to one midnight madness in my life, and that was the 95-96 season when we won it all. This year, there's no way I'm gonna miss it. I wish basketball season started tomorrow!

I appreciate the complement, I remember some great things Billy G did for people such as paying for a girl a plane ticket and expenses so that she could attend her fathers funeral, but the way he handled himself over the last several months that he was on the job was in one word dispicipal. But at least it looks like Coach Calipari is very respectful, I was watching an interview on WLKY's sports sunday tonight where coach was talking about how on the third day he was on the job he and his assistant were sitting in his office at the craft center looked at the UK logo that is on the wall and said can you believe this we are at Kentucky. Its that excitement that makes me hope that the next five and a half months til the season begins flies

Thank you for such a great post!! I agree completely, and I know alot of other UK fans will also when they read this. Great things are coming!! I certainly want to talk to him directly. I was personally never excited about Gillispie. Thought he might get the program back where it belonged, but was disappointed very quickly in him. Also very glad he was fired as soon as he was. We should have hired Cal back then to begin with.

The game of basketball itself was invented by a guy by the name of James Naismith. He was a terrible coach of his own game. He went 55-60 in his career. HE HAD A LOSING RECORD IN HIS OWN FREAKING GAME!!! The name means nothing, it's the strategy ...
